"All of my life, I never felt that I would “fit into" a sorority. I always knew the stereotypes of sorority girls and knew that I didn’t line up with any of those characteristics. I didn’t have blonde hair, I wasn’t thin, my family wasn’t wealthy and I never wanted to be a “follower.”
When I came to Kent State, those same stereotypes of sorority women stayed in the back of my mind. I went through my freshman year and found myself hanging out with people who were not in the best crowd. I found myself not having reliable relationships with a group of girls. I didn’t have a ‘girl gang’ and I knew I wanted that.
College is so hard and I knew I couldn’t get through it without a good support system. Due to this, I decided to go through recruitment. I put all my doubts and stereotypes behind me and signed up. I saw recruitment as an opportunity.
After this process, I was given a bid from Sigma Delta Tau.

In the beginning, I was overwhelmed. I knew that I loved the girls in this chapter but I was having a hard time finding my place. Then I got my big, Sarah. Sarah changed so much for me and changed my viewpoint on so many things. I knew that I would never be alone and that I would always have someone to go to for help or support. Sarah showed me that even if you feel alone, you are not. You have so many people rooting for your success.

In times where I felt like I was taking on struggles and challenges by myself, I always had someone to turn to. I always had a sister who was willing to talk, listen, or even just offer their presence. Once I felt this support, my possibilities were endless. After this switch, I found myself attending more events and because of that I was meeting more people and branching out. I met some of my best friends in this chapter by being vulnerable and starting a conversation that branched into amazing friendships."
